THINGS TO DO IN PHAN RANG – THAP CHAM

THINGS TO DO IN NINH THUAN - ACTIVITIES
The beach is the main attraction, and choosing the right place to stay is very important if your goal is to have quality beach time. The resorts have private beach rights allowing them to keep non-guests away from guests. It also motivates the resorts to keep their beach clean. However, only Bau Truc and Saigon Tourist-Ninh Chu do it consistently. Beaches in front of the other resorts can accumulate garbage from the locals who come to the bay in the morning and evenings.
Waking up for sunrise is highly recommended and may be a highlight of your trip to Vietnam. Get to the beach before 5:30 AM with a towel to sit and watch what seems like the entire city of Phan Rang doing their daily exercising/socializing in front of a beautiful sunrise. You will also see many of the traditional round boats out in the bay as the fisherman collect their daily catch.
The hundreds of locals mysteriously disappear around 8:00 AM and the beach is all yours until the evening. If you have traveled to other popular beach locations in Vietnam, you will notice im/mediately that nobody will come and try to sell you trinkets in Ninh Chu Bay. In fact, during the daytime you may not see anyone on the beach.
If you love to wind surf or kite surf, then Ninh Chu Bay is a paradise. A consistent, strong wind begins blowing before noon and lasts until the evening. Jet skis and motorboats are still unknown, leaving just a few fishing boats as the competition. As of now, none of the resorts rent equipment, however. If you feel like exploring, behind the Saigon Tourist Hotel and within walking distance from the center of the bay, is a hill with several temples and pagodas. Pathways make it easy for visitors to walk up to the statues among the hills and look out over the area. It is a very peaceful place.
Thap Cham is the location of two of the most famous Cham temples. The most popular is Po Klong Garai, which was built in the 13th century and is still an active site for Cham celebrations. Unlike many old ruins, the government has recently renovated the attraction and it is kept in good shape.
If you want to take a day trip, the most popular attraction for the Vietnamese tourists is near-by Vinh Hy Bay. Vinh Hy is a small fishing village about 30 kilometers north of Ninh Chu Bay. Your resort can arrange for you to catch a bus. Once in Vinh Hy, you can take a boat tour to some of the nearby islands and the deserted beaches of the Ninh Thuan coast. Before the new coastal highway was built, these beaches were only accessible by boat.
You also can visit : Bau Truc pottery villageGrapery Garden or Cham brocade weaving village, Take photos with a herd of sheep on a gigantic hill, sand dunes.

THINGS TO DO IN NINH THUAN - EATING
Your dining options are fairly limited, but they are also pretty god. Of course Vietnamese style seafood is the main attraction. The Sakaya Restaurant at the Bau Truc Resort is highly recommended. The restaurant is open air and located on the beach, unlike many of the other resort dining options. The food is relatively inexpensive with most dishes being around $4 and a beer costing $1. Stick with the Vietnamese dishes and stay away from their attempts at western food.
If your resort has a large group of loud Vietnamese tourists, then another excellent option is the beach bar at the Saigon Tourist-Ninh Chu Hotel. It is usually very quiet and you can order any of the dishes from the main restaurant.
Phan Rang is also famous for its chicken and rice. The dish is fairly simple, just boiled chicken, rice, and a spicy fish sauce. You can find this dish in many of the local restaurants around Phan Rang.

THINGS TO DO IN NINH THUAN - ENTERTAINMENT
Phan Rang does not have any nightlife fitting for foreign tourists, yet. If bars and discos are your thing, then Nha Trang or Mui Ne are more appropriate locations. That doesn’t mean there is nothing to do at night, though. Check out 16 April Park to experience a side of Vietnam that not everybody sees.
Hundreds of locals gather around the park to eat street food, drink beer, and chat. It is safe and you will be left alone to enjoy the cool evenings. The park is located between the beach and Phan Rang city.
THINGS TO DO IN NINH THUAN - GETTING AROUND
In general, it is not safe for foreigners to rent motorbikes in Vietnam. Phan Rang might be the exception, as the roads near the beach are wide and empty. Most resorts can rent one to you for about $7/day. We still recommend a taxi or bus if you plan on visiting the Cham Temples or Vinh Hy Bay. If you stay at a resort in the center of the bay, you can walk along the beach or the road lining the beach for some light exploring. Taxis are easy to find and Mai Linh Taxi and Phan Rang Taxi have meters.
ISSUES AND CONCERNS
The biggest factor that can negatively affect your vacation to Ninh Thuan is if a large group of Vietnamese stay in your resort. Ask the receptionist when you check in if they expect a large group and ask for a room that is away from them. These company or school trips are usually accompanied by an tour guide/MC with a microphone and large speakers. A banquet with entertainment and karaoke can make dining at the restaurant impossible. If this happens, try going to the beach bar at the Saigon Tourist-Ninh Chu Hotel. Have some beer, good seafood, and relax while listening to the waves. Another option is to go to your restaurant, order, and have them deliver dinner to your balcony. The groups typically go to Vinh Hy Bay for most the day or they move on to another destination. Daytimes at the resorts are almost always quiet and peaceful.
Phan Rang is not Ho Chi Minh City or even Nha Trang when it comes to service. Many of the staff speak English, but you are far more likely to have to point to the menu (written in English), and ask the receptionist to tell your taxi driver where you are going than in the more popular tourist destinations. You should keep your expectations low for any spa treatments from the local resorts.
The beaches are separated from town, so there are not a lot of convenience stores around, yet. It is possible to find some convenience store items nearby, but if your plan is to stock up on groceries, you may want to take a taxi to the Co-op Mart near Phan Rang.
CONCLUSION
Ninh Thuan Province is very much like the eye of a storm. To the south are the bars and crowds of Mui Ne and Phan Thiet. To the west is the increasingly popular mountain city of Dalat. To the north is the beach city of Nha Trang. If you are looking to step out of the storm that is Vietnam tourism and see what Vietnam is like when foreign tourists are not present, then maybe you should try Ninh Thuan Province. You might want to hurry, though, as this hidden gem is becoming discovered.

The prestigious New York Times recently named Da Lat- a romantic town with kaleidoscopic patch works of flower in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong as one of the world’s top 52 places to visit in 2016.
Stunning beauty of Da Lat dawn

Da Lat was described by the New York Times as a former French-colonial hill station with eternal spring weather and an agricultural El Dorado, growing asparagus, strawberries, coffee, artichokes, roses and more.
The US daily newspaper also highlighted vibrant outdoor activities in the city, including golf, white-water rafting, mountain biking, canyoning and splashing under the roaring Elephant Falls or terraced Pongour Falls.
Famous for its mild climate all year round, Da Lat has two distinct seasons - rainy and sunny ones. During rainy season which begins in May and finishes in October, numerous activities are organised to lure tourists, including speed dating in the rain, pelado and tandem races, a raining flashmob, catwalk in Da Lat’s rain and many other games.
Da Lat never has storms, which makes it ideal for hiking or leisurely walks.
It also well-known for such beautiful French architectures as King Bao Dai’s Palace, Ngo Dinh Diem and Nguyen Cao Ky’s villas and the Hang Nga villas.

Da Lat Weasel Coffee – Civet Coffee’s Real Flavor

Trai Ham Da Lat Weasel Coffee, the big weasel farm in Dalat

The big farm producing the famed weasel coffee in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong has opened its door for visitors to see the entire process of making the coffee with the help of domesticated animals.

Location & Area of weasel coffee farm

The two-hectare farm at 135E Hoang Hoa Tham Street, Da Lat city, is keeping as many as 120 weasels (a type of civet) with the permission of the local forest management agency, and can produce an average of 500 kilograms of weasel coffee every year.

The place for tourists are interested in coffee

Visitors to the farm can see the entire process of making the coffee with the help of the domesticated animals which are under supervision of the local forest management agency.

Meeting the owner of farm

“For every coffee crop, the weasels, a type of civet, are fed with highest quality Arabica coffee berries. The coffee beans which are relatively undigested and intact in their droppings were then collected, cleaned and processed for sale,” the farm’s owner Mr. Nguyen Quoc Minh said.
Experts say the enzymes inside weasels’ stomach give the undigested coffee beans delightful taste and distinctive aroma. Mr. Minh said, the coffee has been checked and recognised by the Pasteur Institute of Da Lat and the Nuclear Research Institute for good quality and hygiene.
The publicizing of weasel coffee production process at the farm contributes to popularising the quality and trademark of Vietnamese coffee, as well as creating a new sight-seeing spot for tourists in Da Lat city.

ABOUT WEASEL COFFEE – CIVET COFFEE

Weasel coffee is the name of a special coffee, the rarest drink in the world. This kind of coffee exists only in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. It is collected from coffee farms, which is the feces discarded by wild weasels after eating mature coffee beans. Thus, it is really rare.
Trai Ham Weasel Coffee is produced under closed process. Clean Moka coffee farm and Weasel farm. Weasels eat mature coffee beans and discard feces, then people collect it and process.

Weasel Coffee
In Indonesia, the word Kopi Luwak is used to refer to this Weasel Coffee. However, the material of Moka coffee from Cau Dat, Trai Ham in Dalat with the height of over 1500m is the best.
In Weasel’s digestive system, with the fermentation of enzymes in stomach, the taste of this coffee is changed and becomes more tasteful mixed with the smell of mold. John Cleese, a Bristish actor stated: “It has the buttery taste of soil, immature taste of mold, solf sweet, also like the taste of syrup, like that it brings the harmony of jungle and chocolate”.

Records of Crazy House in Dalat
Overview of Dalat Crazy House

Otherwise known as the “Crazy House”, this Gaudi-meets-Sesame Street theme park is one not to miss. It’s a wild mass of wood and wire fashioned into the shape of a giant tree house and smoothed over in concrete. It sounds simple, but there’s a vision to this chaos; just ask the eccentric owner/proprietor and chief architect, Ms. Dang Viet Nga. Daughter of aristocracy, Ms. Nga is well heeled after early schooling in China and has a degree in architecture from university in Moscow.

In Dalat she has been inspired to undertake this shrine to the curved line, what she calls an essential mingling of nature and people. The locals deem her eccentric for some reason, but she’s just misunderstood; don’t pass up any opportunity to have a chat with the architect herself.

On a visit here, you’ll follow a helpful guide and are sure to have fun clambering around the concrete ladders, tunnels, and hollowed-out nooks, and in the unique “theme” rooms of this huge fantasy tree trunk. It’s an actual guesthouse, too. There’s a small family shrine in a large common area at the back. It all spoke to me about Vietnam’s refreshingly lax zoning laws, but to many it’s an interesting, evolving piece of pop art. This is a fun visit.

Truc Lam Zen Monastery, The Meditation Center in DalatLocation
Historical records of Truc Lam Zen Monastery
Overview of Truc Lam Zen Monastery
Zen Monastery’s Activities
On the way to Tuyen Lam Lake, tourists have to run right onto a zigzagging road at the mountain side to Phoenix Summit, on which stands beautiful famous Truc Lam Zen Monastery in an open poetic natural environment.

Established in special social conditions, with the aim of restoring Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen School founded by the King Tran Thanh Tong, this Zen school has harmoniously combined different Zen schools with Vietnamese cultural and tradition into Vietnamese Zen. Truc Lam Zen Monastery lies on a protected forest of 23,2 hectares, of which 2 hectares is the building area.
With its advantage of location, Truc Lam zen monastery was designed with a new style of architecture by Mr. Ngo Viet Thu. The sanctum was designed by architecture Huynh Ngoc An. The sanctum has rectangle shape which is toward the South. Sanctum surroundings are a lot of traditional Vietnamese pagodas which were built by ferro-concrete. The monastery was designed modernly. It is simple in its form but modern in structure and use.
The pagoda was built in 1993 – 1994 by superior Buddhist monk Thich Thanh tu and it was designed with the oriental architecture style. With the beautiful landscapes, the pagoda is not only a place for meditation but also an ideal place for visiting.
Besides the Main Hall in the middle, on the right are the consulting room, the belfry and displaying room on the right; on the left are the sitting room, library, and contemplation hall. Before reaching the Main Hall, tourists may take two ways. They may start at the bus stop, take the side gate up 61 steps or, from the lake, climb the 222 steps through the triple gate onto the court in front. Inside the Main Hall, statues are displayed simply but meditatively. In the bright spacious sanctuary is the only statue of Sakyamuni Buddha raising a lotus in his hand – a symbolic image of Buddha in Linh Son Dharma Conference, expressing the philosophy of ‘existence in nihilism’ in Buddhist Zen.
Zen helps people to live in “full awareness” and bring their souls back into peaceful state. Truc Lam Buddhist Zen emphasizes on every one’s interior concentration, either a religious or someone in his/her family. This introspective soul training process leads to personal purification, builds a care-free mind and help one’s good nature to show up; this is the real peace in everyone’s interior, not in a certain paradise in a faraway world.
Visiting Truc Lam Zen Monastery in the quietness of hills and mountains, tourists are free from everyday worries and seem to be able regain themselves in the greatness of the nature.
